Freedom!

Every now and then you read a story in the news about some poor guy who was wrongly convicted of a crime and spent years in jail before evidence was uncovered proving his innocence. You watch him emerge, teary and happy, into the arms of family and freedom. Sometimes there’s a terse appology, but generally that’s about it for all those unrecoverable years. Oops! Too bad you missed your chance to have a life. Take care, now!

I always wondered how they could be anything but bitter. Years stolen! And yet there they are, smiling. Telling the cameras they’re just happy justice was served at last.

Today I have a taste of that feeling. After ten long days with a cast on my right arm, follow-up x-rays showed no fracture! It’s merely sprained. Freedom! I could be bitter about those lost ten days. Days I’ll never get back. But what would be the point?

And there are things of value I’ve gained from the experience: The discovery that my left hand is not entirely helpless, countless “champ” points for making sure the shows went on anyway, three blog posts!
