The Eva Moon & the Lunatics Cocktail

Take one part Bette Midler's divine chutzpah, one part Fiona Apple's juice, add a spritz of Winehouse and top with Tori Amos' flaming hair. Blend in a hot band and stir with a comedy shtick. Mmm, tasty!

Eva Moon & the Lunatics serves up a quirky, high-energy cocktail of pop, jazz, funk and Latin originals. Let us bail you out with a recession-proof show that will make you forget your troubles for a few hours. The music is hot and the lyrics are hotter. Nigerian scammers, sexy bankers, Brazilian waxing, mail order vibrators, barista lust. Nothing is off limits.

The band is not currently playing live but has released two CDs. Check out the tunes here!

balkanarama - high-octane dance music for the gypsy soul

It’s getting late, but the celebration’s far from over. The crowd chants for more, and the band launches into a wild Gypsy rumba. The horn players swap sizzling solos, and the dancers start shakin’ it. It’s another night with Balkanarama.

We’re Americans who perform contemporary Balkan music, from ancient Romany ballads to modern Bulgarian video hits. We give them a flavor all our own on sax and clarinet with four soulful voices, powered by a nonstop dance beat on synth, bass and drums.

We’ve been arousing audiences at clubs, festivals, weddings and parties in the Pacific Northwest since 1997. With a repertoire of over 100 songs, we can lay down a killer club set, present a formal concert or play all night for a Bulgarian wedding. We especially like introducing Balkan Gypsy party music to audiences who’ve never heard it before.

Wherever we play, people get up and dance. And first-timers always join in, because we mostly play easy dances that anyone can pick up on the spot. Basic rock ‘n’ roll dancing works just fine.

Mike GordonMike Gordon has played and recorded on woodwinds with Balkanarama, Guarneri Underground and other West Coast bands. With Eva Moon, though, he’s indulging a longstanding lust to play electric bass and sing backup.

Ferko SaksmanovFerko Saxmanov is classically trained, but "that and a token will get you uptown." He performs with Balkanarama and occasionally with other Seattle Balkan groups. Animals love him, and he wears really great hats.

Sue NiemannZuki Niemann, ex-ballerina and two-time Washington State baton champion, knows a bit about twirling things. But don't encourage her to play with fire, and do not call her a bun head. She was a multi-instrumentalist with the late Seattle band, The Cociks, and performs with Balkanarama.

Alumni

George Michael followed Dave's departure. His guitar method incorporates a range of techniques from intricate open-tuned finger picking and gentle slides to crunchy blues riffs and experimental funk. We love you, George!

Dave Quick is the guitarist on our CD, Moon Falling Down. Shortly after completing the CD he suffered health problems that prevent him from continuing in the band, but we miss him and wish him all the best.

Tym Parsons is the guitarist on our CD, Something Brewing. Just after finishing the CD, he left to run the Pacific Information Centre at the University of the South Pacific on Fiji. We wish him all the best (and envy him a little) in his new life in paradise.

Brita Rae Borough played guitar with use in 2004, but has now moved on to other musical projects. We'll miss her excellent chops and beautiful red Gretsch guitar. Good luck, Brita!
